Displays and sets access control lists on files and directories.

Usage Guide

icacls takes a file or directory name as its’ first parameter. It has other parameters to:

  • find files with a stated SID in their Discretionary Access Control Lists (DACLs)
  • find files with ACLS that are not canonical or have lengths that are inconsistent with access control entry counts
  • remove a stated SID from the DACLs of files and directories
  • change ownership
  • reset ACLs to the default inherited ACLs
  • change permissions
  • substitute SIDs
  • backup and restore DACLs
